Are you new to Massage Therapy and want to give it a try?
This might be one of the best decisions you have ever made. Our team of therapists will certainly make this a great experience for you!
You don’t need any special preparations before receiving your first massage. Arrive 15 minutes before your first appointment to fill out a health history form. Once this is completed, your therapist will take you to the treatment room and discuss your health information with you to make sure the techniques that he/she will be using are safe and most beneficial for you. You will have the opportunity to let your therapist know what kind of symptoms you are experiencing, what you would like them to work on, or if you just want to relax and de-stress.
Your therapist will also assess (Range of Motion testing, Posture assessment, some orthopedic testing) what kind of treatment plan will you the best and quickest results and advise you accordingly.
After all this is completed, your therapist will instruct you in detail about disrobing and how to get onto the table. The he/she will leave the room and let you get comfortably situated. You undress only to your level of comfort and lie down on the table covered with a sheet and a blanket. Some people keep their undergarments on, while others like to undress completely.
Your therapist will knock on the door before entering the room, then ask you if you are completely comfortable or if any adjustments need to be made to pillows, sheets, blanket etc.… To ensure you are nice and toasty, we will offer you a heating pad to add some extra warmth and comfort on a cold day.
Your body will only be undraped in the areas that are being massaged, and re-draped before the therapist moves on to a different part of your body. Private areas of the body will always be covered. Depending on preference, your massage therapist may use oil or lotion to reduce friction on your skin. He/she will ask for feedback on the pressure. If you have any questions about a specific technique, your therapist is using during the treatment, feel free to ask. If you are content with silence and just want to relax, that is also fine.
When the treatment is completed, your therapist will cover you with the sheet and blanket and will leave the room to give you your privacy to get dressed. He/she will wait for you to open the door to let them know that it is okay to come back into the room to have another brief closing chat. This is the time your therapist will let you know if there are any stretches or exercises you could do to further enhance the therapeutic effect of your session. They may also recommend hydrotherapy such as putting some heat or cold pack on a specific area of your body etc…He/she will also advise you on the frequency of treatments that are most beneficial for you.
You may ask any questions you might still have. In conclusion of your visit, your therapist will walk you to the reception desk and say their good bye. All that is left for you to do is take care of the payment yourself or let us bill your insurance directly and if you wish to do so, re-book.
You may request the same therapist that has seen you the first time or you may decide to try a different one. It is completely up to you.
